A tribute to mom's cooking

Tuesday, May 12, 2009Me! In words

I went home for two weeks and boy was it a gastronomic experience. Mom went ballistic in the kitchen and hear is a pictorial look at just SOME of the heavenly dishes that came out of her kitchen. She is now with me in Bangalore and is again on a cooking spree. I will of course dedicate another entire post to her cooking here. I start of with the desserts.

Apple and Date Halwa - though the ingredients were relatively light in nature, it took a tremendous effort to eat one whole tablespoon of this. But trust me this was absolute heaven on earth

Lemon Cheesecake - on my request mom made the biscuit base extra thick. This is my opinion only heightened the wonderful lemony taste of this dish.

Fried fish with the traditional Mangalorean Meet Mirsang. This is a heavenly combination with tomato rasam or even dhal saar

The unmatchable chicken biryani a la Mummy

Baigan Bharta - mummy always has a knack of adding her own twists to dishes. And no... am not going to let out what it is. Suffice to say that the dish was licked clean.

Just look at the size of these beauties. The crabs were got were specially got by my mom's fisherman. All in honour of me.

The crabs cooked. This was the only time everything was in the dish. Then it was getting down to basics.. rolling up sleeves and enjoying

The traditional vegetable stew that makes a heavenly accompaniment with appams. I had this for lunch and for snacks as well.

Here is my mother's favourite dish. Crispy dosas with yummy potatoes along with brahmi leaves chutney. The chutney tangy, the potatoes spicy and the dosas, simple heaven on earth.
