Bangalore restaurant reviews Cafe/Coffee Shop

Black Mug - Jayanagar's new coffee spot

Thursday, September 24, 2009Me! In words

Have been hoarding this for over a month now with the hope that I will be visiting Black Mug again before I wrote the review. But for reasons unknown it just does not seem to be happening and so here is the review anyway.

Black Mug is located in a profitable spot, meaning its a stone's throw away from NMKRV college. Other landmarks are Bhima Jewellers in 3rd Block of Jayanagar and Food World. These three places form a triangle between which sits Black Mug. It is placed along with a bag store and accessories shop and makes for a nice place to sit down after a round of girlie shopping. It is however really really small and has around 5 tables that can seat 3 each and 4 if you really scrunch in.

The beginning and end of the small Black Mug outlet

I am not a coffee drinker and so I went in for good old lemon tea. For Anoushka we ordered a plain sugar doughnut. I liked the lemon tea and its much better than what is served in Coffee Day. The sugar doughnut was not as soft as what you get at Donut Baker or even Koshy's for that matter and so no wonder Anoushka left it to me to finish.

My really nice lemon tea

The nothing-great doughnut

Now Sudhakar had something very interesting - It was called Moon Shadow Cafe. The description in the menu said - cold coffee with pastry blended in. And were we amazed at what came.

The Moon Shadow Cafe

A tall glass of cold coffee that had Black Forest cake crumbled into it. And to top it off, two slices of Black Forest cake wedged in. The space in between was filled up with whipped cream and topped off with a cherry. It took Sudhakar quite a while to get through this concoction but he did so happily.

Some of the other offerings

Get a magnifying glass if you want to see more of what's on offer

There are quite a bit of non-vegetarian offerings too on the menu, its just that we went there after dinner and just could not indulge any more. What we ordered came to roughly Rs 150 or lesser. The one sad part is that the place does not have a loo and the only loo in the building is in the accessories shop which closes early in the evening. Nice place and I will have more on my next visit.
