Chef's - something for everyone in Mangalore
Saturday, December 04, 2010Me! In wordsChef's has been around for donkey's years. It began at the foot of Kadri. It had a fast food restaurant on the first floor and Chinese one in the basement. Couple of years later on a visit home from Manipal, I saw that they had a branch near the Kaprigudda women's hostel. And now, all these years later, the branch at Kadri has been completely revamped. And the best part... it delivers anywhere.
When mom handed me the menu I thought she accidently handed me a few pages from the telephone directory. The menu was looooong and there was everything conceivable on it. We ordered from the place twice and the one thing I realized was that the food was exactly like something you would whip up at home. I mean this in terms of ingredients and the way you throw it together.

I mean, who would have thought of a Bolognese footlong - sausage tossed in a spicy tomato base, stuffed into a footlong. This was topped off which white sauce & melted cheese. Sinful and definitely a task for Adam Richman. It took me two meals to finish this off and that too was a struggle.

The Chef's special burger comes with a minced lamb patty, placed on an omelette with a slice of salami and then the works thrown on. Quite a mouthful, but a very satisfying one.

The Chicken Pepper steak - served with a nice pepper sauce, coleslaw and veggies on the side. What you see here is the home delivery version, the plated version will definitely look better am guessing.

The Chicken Spring Rolls are the Chinese version and are thoughtfully cut up for home delivery. But the tomato sauce packet with it makes it more of a bachelor/hostelite kind of thing.

Pasta in meatball sauce. This is a dish that will take you a few bites to start liking. And when you do, you will break any of Adam Richman's time records in finishing it.

I don't remember the name of this pizza, think it was the Chef's special something. It had chicken, cheese, olives and strangely cashewnuts. This is what I meant by food that seems to have been made at home. Something like you throw anything you find in the kitchen onto a pizza and the result turns out great.

Chicken Biryani - moist and nice... no need to say more

And can we forget the French Fries (this BTW came with the Lamb Burger). And yes they were soggy. It was home delivery from a restaurant. Technology hasn't been invented to prevent them from going soggy.
