Christian Ciamos, Commercial Manager for Albert Bichot wines was recently in the city on a wine promotion. Here is a short interview with him.

1. What is it about wines that makes them such an intensely promoted beverage these days?
Wine is Nature and Authenticity. There is a general trend in the world to go back to the ROOTS. The terroir wines reflect those trends.


2. How educated about wine should you be in order to appreciate it
No special education needed. The consumers need a sensual feeling and EMOTION to begin with. Secondly, there needs to be a logical attempt to match those emotional wines with food. Just a few consumers will reach the 3rd step of becoming more knowledgeable in wines and being labeled a connoisseur.

3. What are the wines trending this year
The trend for the coming years will focus on more fruity aromas, roundness, and elegance to ideally match with the food. The “technological” wines cannot be the answer.

4. What are your thoughts on food pairing and wine
One must pick wines focusing on more fruity aromas, roundness, and elegance to ideally match with the food.

5. Any new trends among wine producers internationally
A lot of concentration in the wine industry  worldwide. Fortunately Burgundy is of small volume and very much divided with the famous single vineyards. Burgundy remains more family minded and hence more protected from the above worldwide concentration.
